With its glossy purple skin and remarkable versatility, the aubergine holds a special place in Mediterranean cuisine. Behind every dish are family traditions, recipes handed down through generations and the distinctive southern Italian ability to transform a simple ingredient into something to be shared.
The 2ª Sagra della Melanzana brings this culinary heritage to the heart of Paolisi, inviting visitors to rediscover one of the most representative ingredients of the summer table. Food lies at the centre of the festival, yet the event also celebrates the enduring value of village gatherings: occasions when generations meet, the community comes together and cooking becomes an expression of collective identity.
The municipal gardens and Giardini “Gino Strada” will provide a welcoming green setting in which to stop, taste the dishes on offer and enjoy the pleasure of eating together. The festival will welcome visitors for dinner on Saturday, while Sunday’s programme will extend from lunchtime into the evening.
The aubergine will naturally be the main attraction: an ingredient capable of producing an extraordinary variety of flavours, textures and recipes. Whether fried, baked, paired with tomatoes or creatively reinterpreted, it continues to tell a culinary story rooted in home cooking and seasonal produce.
Organised by Pro Loco di Paolisi APS under the patronage of the Municipality of Paolisi, the second edition renews the connection between the town and Campania’s gastronomic culture, transforming the aubergine into the centrepiece of a genuine community celebration.
