Some recipes survive because a community continues to prepare them, call them by their original names and share them around the table. In Massa di Faicchio, this heritage returns to the heart of the village with the 39th Food and Wine Festival, taking place from Friday, 18 to Sunday, 20 September 2026.
Every evening from 8:30 pm, Piazza San Nicola and the surrounding streets will welcome food stands dedicated to the traditional cuisine of Massa. The menu features dishes rooted in local home cooking and rural traditions, including pallottl, carne e p’paur, p’parul ’mbuttit, scarrafun and tagliaregl’ e cic’r. Bruschetta dressed with locally produced olive oils and tastings of regional wines will complete the experience.
One of the festival’s most recognisable symbols will return: the Fountain of the Three Barrels, from which wine produced in Massa will flow for visitors. Over time, this simple gesture has become part of the identity of the celebration.
Live music begins at 9:00 pm each evening, accompanying the food experience and transforming the village centre into a place for meeting and sharing. On Saturday, celebrations continue beyond midnight with a DJ set in the Pro Loco garden.
The festival tells more than the story of what people eat in Massa di Faicchio. It reveals how the community preserves its memory through dialect names, recipes passed between generations and a shared table that continues to bring people together.
