Here, piracy is not folklore. It is a declaration of independence.
Cantina Pirata was founded on the idea that making wine means choosing your own route—even when it is not the most comfortable one. After years spent traveling, participating in international exchanges, and gaining experiences abroad, founder Filippo returned to Sannio to build something personal and uncompromising. Not because tradition demanded it, but because conviction did.
Winemaking began in 2020; the winery officially opened on February 22, 2022—a carefully chosen date, almost symbolic, marking the start of a new voyage. Production remains intentionally limited to around 5–6,000 bottles per year. Every label is an experiment, every vintage a different chapter.
The passito is the beating heart of the project. With spontaneous fermentations, minimal intervention, and inspiration drawn from the solera method, time is not rushed but layered. Alongside it are whites, reds, and a sparkling wine born almost as a playful experiment that quickly became a surprising success. Because freedom in production also means listening—without losing identity.
Particular attention is given to local grape varieties such as Camaiola, a native grape with a strong personality, vinified in purity to highlight its deep color, vibrant aromas, and unexpected versatility. Cantina Pirata wines are direct, alive, and never engineered to please everyone. They can be enjoyed with a refined dish or a simple sandwich—without unnecessary ceremony.
The visual universe is inseparable from the wine itself. Hand-drawn labels transform friends and companions into illustrated pirates. Historical references, western cinema, comics, and irony merge into bottles that stand out instantly. Wine becomes narrative, a cultural object, a conversation starter.
Cantina Pirata does not wait for approval, does not chase trends, and does not hide behind formalities. It is an invitation to come aboard and discover that even in Sannio, wine can be made with a truly free spirit.

Curiosities
The name Cantina Pirata is also a tribute to the universe of One Piece. Like the protagonists of the iconic manga, founder Filippo traveled extensively before choosing his own route. If the “One Piece” is a legendary treasure for some, for him it meant discovering his true project and building it in the Sannio: an independent winery, free in spirit and faithful to its vision.
