CANTO E GUSTO / 1ª SAGRA DELLA MONTANARA

In Paupisi, taste never arrives alone: it often walks together with music, the village square and that unmistakable Sannio desire to turn a summer evening into a shared community moment. Canto e Gusto was born from this very idea, bringing together two worlds that may seem distant but actually speak the same language: bel canto and good food. The first event is entrusted to Corale Papisius, performing the concert “From Bizet to Verdi”, a journey through some of the most famous melodies of opera, among arias, overtures and timeless passions. The square thus becomes a small open-air theatre, where opera leaves its traditional spaces and meets the audience in the heart of the village. A few days later, the story changes rhythm but not spirit: on June 26 and 27, in Largo G. De Marco, the 1st Sagra della Montanara celebrates one of the most beloved specialities of Campanian cuisine. The montanara — fried, warm, fragrant and seasoned “comme ’a vuò tu”, just as you like it — becomes much more than street food: it is a symbol of hospitality, simplicity and popular celebration. Organised by Pro Loco Paupisi and Paupisi Eventi, with the patronage of the Municipality, UNPLI and the provincial committee of UNPLI Benevento, the initiative builds a bridge between high culture and everyday tradition. On one side, Verdi and Bizet; on the other, the aroma of fried dough and freshly served toppings. On one side, listening; on the other, conviviality. The result is a light yet deeply identity-based format, able to present Paupisi as a lively, welcoming and creative village, where culture never feels distant and taste becomes a reason to gather.
