Some gestures seem to belong to the past, yet they still explain the present better than many words. Harvesting is one of them: an agricultural ritual, of course, but also a moment of community, shared effort, waiting and gratitude towards the land. In San Giorgio la Molara, in the heart of the Benevento Fortore area, the Festa della Mietitura 2026 was created to bring this material and intangible heritage back to the centre, turning a summer day into a living story of rural civilisation. The chosen location is anything but random: the Regio Tratturo, connected to the historic Pescasseroli-Candela route and to the landscape of the Piana di Calise, gives the event a deeply identity-based setting. Here, wheat is not only an agricultural product, but a memory of transhumance, work, families, seasons and knowledge handed down through time. The festival is built around a simple yet powerful formula: a gathering of agricultural vehicles, vintage farming machines, moments of rural life, demonstrations linked to harvesting and a loop walk along the ancient tratturo. It is an event that speaks above all through images: the slow movement of tractors, the dust of the countryside, hands remembering ancient gestures, and the open Fortore landscape accompanying every step. Alongside the re-enactment, there is the convivial moment of lunch, conceived as the natural continuation of the ritual: because in rural culture, work in the fields never truly ends without a table, without stories, without sharing. The menu includes familiar, traditional flavours such as crostata di tagliolini and a main course chosen between pork cutlet or sausage, confirming the authentic character of an event that does not seek spectacle, but contact with roots. The Festa della Mietitura is therefore a small lesson in territory: it reminds us that Sannio is not told only through monuments, but also through fields, tratturi, bread, farming machines and the quiet dignity of rural work.
