A corn cob, the scent of summer and a square filled with people are all it takes to turn a simple ingredient into a celebration.
On Sunday 9 August 2026, from 8:30 pm, Piazza Mercato in San Bartolomeo in Galdo will host the Sagra dei Granoni, organised by the local Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality.
“Granone” is one of the traditional names for corn in the rural vocabulary of southern Italy. The word evokes a straightforward style of cooking built around produce from the land and the ability to make the most of even the simplest everyday ingredients.
Corn will be the main feature of the event, accompanied by dedicated food and drink areas. The official programme has not yet provided details of the dishes that will be served, allowing visitors to discover the menu during the evening. Previous editions have offered various informal festival foods alongside the granoni, while the 2026 menu will be the one presented directly by the organisers.
The event will capture the cheerful, welcoming spirit of a traditional village festival. DJ Kol will entertain the audience with karaoke and group dancing, turning Piazza Mercato into a place to enjoy together.
In the heart of the Fortore area, the Sagra dei Granoni celebrates the value of simplicity. Elaborate dishes are unnecessary when familiar flavours, music and the pleasure of gathering together can still create a genuine sense of community.
