The Bean Festival of Campoli del Monte Taburno is more than just a food event—it's a true tribute to the land and its agricultural roots. Held every year at the end of summer, it celebrates the harvest of one of the area’s most prized products: hand-selected, high-quality beans, cultivated in the fertile soils of the Taburno Mountains.

This small village becomes a lively open-air kitchen, where visitors can taste traditional peasant dishes: bean soup with pork rind, beans with sausage, “all’uccelletto” style beans, and more—each recipe passed down from generation to generation.

The event is enriched by live folk musiclocal craft markets, and guided walks through the bean fields. It’s a warm and authentic experience that highlights the richness of rural life and the deep connection between community and land.

Recommended Pairings

  • Bean-based dishes pair beautifully with a  Aglianico del Taburno, which enhances their softness and rustic flavor.
  • Also perfect is the combination with country-style breadextra virgin olive oil from the Sannio, and a touch of chili pepper for the boldest palates.

Curiosities

• The Campoli bean is a native variety, cultivated by hand and without pesticides, thanks to the altitude and the fertile soils of the Taburno mountain area.

• Its quality is so renowned that efforts have been underway for years to obtain a PGI or local designation (De.Co.)recognition.

• In many traditional recipes, the beans are slow-cooked in clay pots (pignata) over wood embers, following ancient farming techniques.

• The festival is organized in collaboration with local producers, farmers, and restaurateurs to ensure authenticity in every dish.

• During the event, the village of Campoli transforms into a flavor trail, with the old town’s homes turning into open-air kitchens and tasting points.
