Some food festivals are remembered for their dishes.
Others are remembered for the people who make them possible.
The San Silvestro Festival was born from the commitment of the local parish community, whose dedication has kept this beloved tradition alive year after year. Today, the organising committee brings together around 200 volunteers, adults and children alike, led for the first time by Father Biagio Muto. Weeks of preparation culminate in three evenings lived with a genuine spirit of fellowship and shared purpose.
All proceeds from the festival are donated to the Parish of San Silvestro, helping to improve parish facilities and support activities for the younger members of the community. Every meal served becomes a meaningful contribution to the life of the village.
Set among the gentle hills of the Sannio countryside, the festival offers a journey through the flavours of local tradition. Visitors can enjoy cured meats, bruschetta, stuffed peppers, freshly made pasta prepared every day, grilled local meats, slow-cooked beef stew, homemade bread, traditional desserts, and Aglianico and Falanghina wines from Cantine Ciervo. A renewed vegetarian menu is also available, while the 2026 edition introduces the new Special Sandwich, filled with tondo bread, Falanghina beef stew and fried peppers.
Alongside the food, the festival also celebrates the area's rural heritage through an exhibition of traditional farming tools and TrebbiArt – Art, Artists and Craftsmen, accompanied by The Magic of Wheat, a tribute to one of the symbols of the Sannio countryside. This year's programme also includes celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic.
Every evening will feature live entertainment: on Friday, the Pentagramma Orchestra and the comedy duo Albertuccio & Ciruzzo; on Saturday, the folk sounds of Janua Musica Popolare; and on Sunday, performances by The Evergreen Band and Bema, providing the perfect soundtrack for three unforgettable summer evenings.
For three days, San Silvestro shows how a local festival can become much more than a celebration of food. It becomes a place where traditions are passed on, friendships are strengthened and an entire community comes together to welcome visitors with warmth, generosity and pride.
