Some places tell their story through monuments. Cautano chooses to tell it through its alleyways.
From 12 to 14 August, this charming village nestled in the Vitulanese Valley welcomes visitors once again with "Tra i Vicoli", a food and wine festival that transforms the historic centre into an immersive experience where tradition, hospitality and local identity come together.
As you stroll through the ancient stone streets, every corner reveals something new. The aromas of traditional cuisine blend with the sounds of live music, while hidden courtyards, picturesque squares and historic lanes come alive thanks to the dedication of local volunteers, associations and businesses that, year after year, make this event possible.
Along the route, visitors will have the opportunity to taste authentic dishes prepared according to recipes handed down through generations. Local ingredients and genuine flavours celebrate the deep bond between the community and its land, turning every tasting into a journey through the culinary heritage of the Vitulanese Valley. Warm hospitality and the welcoming spirit of the village complete an experience that is as authentic as it is memorable.
Throughout the three evenings, live performances and musical entertainment will fill the streets, creating a lively yet intimate atmosphere where every stop becomes an opportunity to meet people, share stories and enjoy the beauty of summer together.
But "Tra i Vicoli" is much more than a food festival. It is an invitation to slow down, to admire flower-filled balconies, ancient stone doorways and hidden little squares, allowing yourself to be surprised by the countless details that make this village unique.
For three nights, Cautano symbolically opens the doors of its home, inviting every visitor to discover its most authentic soul: one shaped by its people, its traditions and those simple gestures that continue to preserve the true identity of the Sannio.
